I love food- trying new things and travel. But the best food is always what someone else prepares and brings to you on a plate that you do not have to wash! My mom hated to cook- and showed it at every meal. But she loved to eat- and experiment and converse- the best parts of a meal.

Much of what I know about cooking I learned from watching my grandmother. She was a farmer's wife and made great meals in no time. Because so many of the things she made became our favorites we created a family cookbook. And have decided 29 years later that a sequel may be necessary.

My favorite food is red meat. Slap it on the grill and watch it sizzle!

Feeling a lack of culinary traditions in my own family, I started one that has now become a favorite with my children. About 6 or 7 years ago, I instituted "Game Day" on the Friday after Thanksgiving. As part of this event, I cook another turkey and we play games all day, but the real signiture culinary event associated with Game Day, has been the addition of the Breakfast Strata. Initially, the Strata was added to help induce everyone to come over earlier. Basically, get the festivites started. But it has now evolved into a major focus of the day. I make a couple variations and besides being utterly delicious, they are a vision to behold when they come out of the oven.
